LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln Police Department is investigating a robbery and assault from late Friday night that resulted in the death of a dog.

LPD said a 42-year-old woman went to Wilderness Park around 10 p.m., in a parking lot near 1st and Pioneers, to let her dogs out.

According to police, the woman saw a man get into her car and she confronted him.

Police said the woman’s dog attacked the man who then pulled out a knife and stabbed the dog several times. LPD said the man was able to steal cash that had been inside the car.

LPD said the dog had to be euthanized after the attack because of the severity of the injuries.

The woman had minor cuts caused during the struggle.

Officers searched for where incident took place, processed the scene for evidence and canvassed the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call LPD at (402) 441-6000, or call Crime Stoppers at (402) 475-3600.
