Bill Rentschler was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska along with three(!) sisters. He graduated from Pius X High School in 2008; afterward he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he majored in meteorology.
After an internship at KLKN in Lincoln, he got his first job in broadcasting at KGWN in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he served as a reporter and meteorologist, before finishing as the evening meteorologist Monday through Friday in November of 2015.
While living and working in Cheyenne, Bill got engaged to Katie, his high school sweetheart, and they were married in November of 2014 in Estes Park, Colorado.
In 2015, Bill and Katie learned they were expecting their first child, which then prompted him to return to Lincoln where both he and his wife's family reside.
He started at KOLN in December of 2015 where he served as a reporter for several months before transitioning to his role in the weather department. During his time here, he's worked for KOLN and our sister stations across the state, providing weather from the Panhandle to southeastern Nebraska.
In June of 2016, Bill and Katie welcomed their first child to the world - Liam Rentschler! Shortly after Liam was born, to their amazement, they found out they were expecting baby number two, and Jamie was born in August of 2017.
Bill, Katie, and their two boys enjoy spending time outside, going for walks to the park, walking their dog Snickers, and looking for mowers (it's a real thing!).
In January of 2020, Bill earned his CBM Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society, a certification held by less than half of on-air meteorologists. When Bill has time away from work and the kids, which is few and far between, you can usually find him on the golf course with Ken!
